Restoring Form, Function, and Confidence After Mohs Surgery
As a Mohs surgeon, my goal doesn’t end with removing skin cancer—it continues with thoughtfully restoring what’s been lost. Surgical reconstruction is often necessary to repair areas where cancer removal has left a visible or functional impact. At Elite Skin, our approach to reconstruction is rooted in three core principles: first, we restore form—rebuilding the structural integrity of the skin. Next, we ensure function—preserving movement, sensation, and protection. And finally, we refine cosmetic appearance, working to achieve the most natural and aesthetically pleasing result possible.
Whether addressing damage from Mohs surgery, trauma, or prior scarring, reconstructive techniques allow us to close wounds in a way that promotes healing, prevents infection, and respects the natural lines and contours of the skin. Every repair is individualized—tailored to your anatomy, the location of the defect, and the complexity of the closure.

The Types Of Skin Surgery
At Elite Skin, we use several surgical techniques to repair and restore the skin after procedures like Mohs surgery. The method chosen depends on the size, depth, and location of the defect, as well as your individual goals and healing preferences.
Second Intention Healing
In some cases, the best approach is to allow the wound to heal naturally from the inside out—a method known as second intention healing. This is used in select areas with good cosmetic and functional outcomes, and can avoid additional incisions or stitches.
Linear Closure
When appropriate, we may use a simple linear closure, where the edges of the wound are brought together and sutured in a straight line. This technique works well for smaller or more elongated wounds and typically results in a fine-line scar.
Skin Flap Surgery
A flap uses healthy tissue adjacent to the surgical site, keeping it connected to its original blood supply. This method is ideal when tissue match and contour preservation are important, such as on the nose, eyelids, or lips.
Skin Graft Surgery
In cases where nearby tissue isn’t suitable or available for a flap, we may use a skin graft—transplanting healthy skin from another part of your body. We’ll work with you to select a discreet and appropriate donor site.
In all cases, our goal is to preserve form, restore function, and achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome. Some procedures may involve two healing areas—the original surgical site and a donor site—and healing times can vary. Full recovery may take several weeks to months, and in rare cases, revision or additional grafting may be needed.
Will You Require Reconstructive Surgery
