Acne
Acne is a common skin condition of red bumps or pimples found anywhere on the body, but most often on your face, back, neck, chest and shoulders. Acne develops when the skin’s natural processes become imbalanced—excess oil production, clogged pores, bacterial overgrowth, and inflammation all play a role. These factors often intensify during the teenage years when hormone levels surge, making breakouts more common. While many types of acne are mild and manageable, some forms can lead to scarring, inflammation, and even long-term damage to your skin and overall health.
Comedonal acne includes blackheads and whiteheads that appear black or white on the surface of the skin. Whiteheads are closed pores, while blackheads are open. Both types can contain dry skin, oil and dirt within the pore.
Inflammatory acne develops when bacteria become trapped inside clogged pores, leading to redness, swelling, and discomfort. These breakouts often appear as tender, pus-filled bumps caused by the body’s immune response to the bacteria.
Cystic acne forms deep beneath the skin’s surface, leading to large, painful bumps. It’s one of the more severe types of acne and often carries a higher risk of scarring.
Hormonal acne crops up during times of high hormonal changes, such as puberty, menstruation and pregnancy. This type of acne is commonly located on your chin or jawline.
At Elite Skin, we treat all types of acne—from mild to severe—with personalized plans tailored to your skin’s unique needs. Depending on the type and severity, treatments may include prescription medications, topical therapies, or in-office procedures like chemical peels. Our goal is to help you minimize breakouts, reduce the risk of scarring, and improve the overall clarity of your skin.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common chronic skin condition that affects an estimated 16 million Americans. It typically presents as facial redness and visible blood vessels, often accompanied by small red bumps that can be mistaken for acne. Symptoms tend to flare in cycles—lasting for weeks or months before improving—only to return again. Because rosacea can resemble other skin conditions, it’s important to have it properly diagnosed by the dermatology team at Elite Skin to ensure you receive the most effective treatment and care.
The exact cause of rosacea is still unknown, but there are a number of known potential triggers to a rosacea flare up. These include:
