Skin Conditions Have You Seeing Red?

Both acne and rosacea flare ups can leave your skin red and irritated. The precision dermatologists at Elite Skin can help you get back to clear, smooth skin that has you looking and feeling your best.

Acne

Acne is a common skin condition of red bumps or splotches found anywhere on the body, but most often on your face, back, neck, chest and shoulders. Acne occurs when your skin’s pores become clogged, either by buildups of oil, dirt, dead skin cells or bacteria. This is more common during your teenage years when your hormone levels are at their highest. Most forms of acne are relatively harmless, but some types can be actively damaging to your skin and your health.

Comedonal acne includes blackheads and whiteheads that appear black or white on the surface of the skin. Whiteheads are closed pores, while blackheads are open. Both types can contain dry skin, oil and dirt within the pore.

Inflammatory acne occurs when bacteria gets into the pores. Inflammatory acne bumps appear red and inflamed and can be very painful. These bumps also may be filled with puss, which make them messy and bothersome.

Cystic acne builds up below the skin’s surface, causing painful bumps to appear. This type of acne is both widespread and prone to scarring.

Hormonal acne crops up during times of high hormonal changes, such as puberty, menstruation and pregnancy. This type of acne is commonly located on your chin or jawline.

At Elite Skin, we treat all types of acne at all levels of severity. Each type has its own treatment plans, and we personalize a plan for your specific needs, from over-the-counter medications to chemical peels or laser procedures. We can help you minimize breakouts, decrease the potential for scarring and overall reduce the appearance of your acne.

Rosacea

Rosacea is another very common skin condition, affecting around 16 million Americans. The telltale sign of rosacea is redness and/or visible blood vessels around the face area. It can also manifest as small, red bumps that may be confused for acne. Rosacea symptoms often flare up for weeks or even months at a time before temporarily subsiding. Rosacea is often mistaken for other skin conditions, so it’s important to have it checked by the dermatologists at Elite Skin to make sure you’re getting the right treatment and care.

The exact cause of rosacea is still unknown, but there are a number of known potential triggers to a rosacea flare up. These include:

  • Sun exposure
  • Spicy food
  • Hot beverages
  • Alcohol
  • Hot weather
  • Cold weather
  • Hot baths
  • Strong wind
  • Emotional stress
  • Heavy exercise
  • Cosmetics
  • Medications

Elite Skin has a number of treatment options for rosacea, including a variety of laser treatments such as Vbeam Perfecta, IPL, Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant. We can discuss with you which is the best course of treatment to make your skin its very best.
